Produced by Buzz Feitshans, Raffaella De Laurentiis. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Earl Jones, Sandahl Bergman, Max von Sydow. Cinematography by Duke Callaghan. Edited by C. Timothy O'Meara. Conan the Barbarian, directed by John Milius, is an epic sword-and-sorcery tale that follows the journey of Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a warrior whose family is slaughtered by the cult leader Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones). Born out of a desire for vengeance, Conan embarks on a relentless pursuit of his enemies, confronting monstrous creatures, dark magic, and moral choices that test his humanity. Set in a mythical age of high adventure, the film is visually stunning, combining visceral combat with deeper themes of fate, survival, and the forging of identity. The rich, immersive world-building, combined with Basil Poledouris' legendary score, creates a sense of timeless mythos. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s breakout role as Conan perfectly captures the character’s primal strength, and his physicality adds authenticity to the legendary warrior's struggle. Renowned critic Roger Ebert called it "a triumph of production design, sets, and art direction," while others praised its operatic, larger-than-life vision that paved the way for the modern fantasy genre.

A standout performance comes from James Earl Jones as the mesmerizing Thulsa Doom. Jones brings an eerie gravitas and chilling charisma to the role of the serpent cult leader, embodying the magnetic allure of evil. His presence looms over the film like a dark shadow, solidifying the villain as one of the most memorable antagonists in cinematic history. In tribute to the legendary James Earl Jones, CineDOOM has moved this special screening up to September, honoring his remarkable life and contribution to cinema (1931-2024).
